VFL Wolfsburg and Volkswagen

The blog you are reading right now is about VFL Wolfsburg. VFL Wolfsburg is a German club, which plays in the Bundesliga. The were the champions of the Bundesliga in the season 2008-2009. VFL Wolfsburg was originally part of a multisport club, which also contained a basketball, hochey and volleyball club. But in 2001 VFL Wolfsburg seperated itself from this club, when new head sponsor Volkswagen bought 90% of the shares of VFL Wolfsburg. Since then VFL Wolfsburg is a club of its own, owned by Volkswagen. I think everybody who reads this blog will know what Volkswagen is, but for the people who don’t, i will tell something about Volkswagen. Volkswagen is the biggest car brand of Volkswagen Group, and has two cars in the top 5 of most sold cars ever. This are the Volkswagen polo and the Volkswagen Golf. You can imagine, when knowing this, that Volkswagen is a very wealthy company. So they weren’t satisfied with ‘only’ 90 % of the shares from VFL Wolsburg. So in 2007 Volkswagen also bought the remaining 10% of the stocks and since then VFL Wolfsburg is fully owned by Volkswagen. The stadium of VFL Wolfsburg is also called to the head sponsor, the name of the stadium is namely ‘Der Volkswagenarena’.  Nowadays VFL Wolfsburg doesn’t play for the German titel anymore, the leader of the German Bundesliga is momentarily Borussia Dortmund, and it seems they will be this years Bundesliga champion.
